Summary
The database administrator will maintain all production relational databases. This person will be responsible for database operations, security administration, object administration, capacity planning, capacity management, and performance tuning of Microsoft SQL 2008 database servers. The candidate will proactively monitor database servers for resource utilization and provide ongoing trend analysis for determining current need and forecasting future resource requirements. This person will also ensure the stable operation of the in-house and co-located database servers by means of backup and replication technologies.
Responsibilities
• Design, build and test high-performance SQL database servers
• Design and develop complex stored procedures
• Coordinate efforts with other technical staff to validate SQL queries and work with users to ensure efficiency of code
• Troubleshoot, research and develop solutions related to defects, trends and complex anomalies
• Design, develop and implement back up and recovery procedures
• Monitor and analyze system space usage within the database. Proactively assess and resolve performance issues
• Ensure compliance to methodology and quality/process initiatives
• Liaise between application developers and outside vendors to report and resolve problems
• Monitor error log(s), database and log space, user activity and resource utilization of production environment
• Work with users to ensure that application problems do not adversely affect production operations
• Monitor system resources of database servers to assure production systems meet availability requirements and hardware enhancements are scheduled in a timely fashion
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent area
• Minimum of four (4) years MS SQL Server database administration and database development experience
• Hands-on expertise directly performing DBA functions, installing, configuring and supporting SQL Server based database systems
• Strong knowledge of Transact-SQL, logging, indexes, views, queries, triggers, transactions and performance tuning
• Experience in designing, implementing and administering large complex distributed database environment with high volume and high availability requirements
• Solid experience in writing stored procedures and triggers on relational databases
• Solid experience in database applications development life cycle, including code design, data modeling, testing, and documentation
• Experience with software and hardware troubleshooting with the proven ability to solve complex technical problems
• Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal and team skills
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills and a team player
